Luis is a Board fixture, having made the organisation both his career and life. A relatively quiet figure, he is nonetheless usually pointed out to newbies as someone to help them adjust to CRFH, and assists those he can. Most assume his friendly outlook is simply typical Oldbie calm, but occasionally someone looks his data up in the Archives and discovers just why he remains quiet and taciturn.

Many years ago, at the dawn of the CRFH era, Luis was part of a Chilean student exchange to the Roomies' university, alongside his girlfriend, Rosa. They stumbled across the opening events of Maritza's first dabbles with humanity, and narrowly escaped what Boardies still suspect was Hell's opening countermove...clearly, less narrowly than they thought at the time. Leaving shortly after the Incident with Cthulhu's pet microdragon, Rosa and Luis continued on to visit a friend in a nearby state. En route, a landslide ploughed into their bus. Luis crawled from the wreckage to find Rosa missing, and hasn't seen her since.

Her loss, and fruitless searching for her, threatened the young man's sanity. Growing paranoia convinced him the crash had been caused by some form of conspiracy, and he took up virus writing and security cracking in an obsessive hunt for evidence. He was actually more successful than most, and ran across the Board communications network...setting off enough alarms to wake the dead and bringing a commando team down around his ears. Recognising talent when they saw it, and with not a small dose of sympathy (rumour says Maritza Herself interceded on behalf of someone unwittingly caught in her machinations, although rumour always says that), High Command offered him a position in Computer Operations. His work on the prototype RESPAWN system and POST network has proved him in their eyes several times over.

Most of his time serving the Board is spent at his workshop aboard the Funky Horror, which he saw built, where he sleeps, codes, and toys with the resources available. His loss has left him introverted and lonely, but despite this, Luis has become friends with many of his younger fellow Boardies, surrounding himself with their youth and energy to stave off depression, in between long sessions of thought in Astronomy or Hydroponics. He keeps a photo of Rosa on him at all times.

Luis hasn't yet worked up the courage to ask for Speculation's assistance in investigating Rosa's disappearance. He's afraid they might have answers he doesn't want to hear.
