SPP 142-A was found on the edge of FLEETspace; her vessel, damaged beyond function, and herself, starving, weak, and with little more mass than a housecat. Not being the types to pass up interesting foreign technology (no matter how mangled) in the spirit of picking it apart, the science folks quickly gathered up the scrapheap, and, unknowingly, its passenger. After a strength-building covert raid of a mess hall, and a few hours' worth of gathering data at a number of consoles, was able to make her presence known, initiate contact, and prove her sentience. After a few weeks of getting her bearings, Synfony (as she came to call herself during the early days of learning the language) integrated herself into life on the Funky Horror, which was an extreme change from the confines of her previous life as a military experiment in a star system far from FLEET and its reaches.
Synfony is a nanomotile construct, a seamless blending of biology and cybernetics. Every cell of her body is fused with a nanite that controls the shape and function of the cell, and allows her body to move and change shape, colour, and size fluidly. This body allows her to imitate a wide range of objects and forms, and also gives her the ability to directly physically interface with many technologies, and manipulate them at the data-level. Due to her youth, she still has yet to completely discover the range and depth of her capabilities, but she learns quickly and is always coming up with new tricks.
Synfony tends to form strong emotional bonds to individuals, partially due to a slightly immature emotional psyche and a traumatic upbringing prior to being found by FLEET. She has a very advanced brain, absorbs information at blinding speeds, and adapts quickly. She's very tactile, interacting with everyone and everything on a physical level (with little concept of propriety and decorum, but she's still learning). Syn has earned herself a reputation for having a bit of a mischevious streak, having been known to eavesdrop on private conversations while disguised as furniture, and for her penchant for plotting the occasional prank.
Recently, Syn found her niche as Communications Officer, managing intercom, monitoring ship status, and translating between computer systems and the crew, all through a specially-designed console that allows her to uplink to the system directly, with a constant data feed between herself and the station.
