Quote: "No, Officer, I don't know what
happened to that civilian convoy. The vessel they described was just
like mine? Coincidence, I assure you. Those scorch marks on the SM2?
Training exercises, trust me. Uh... No, you can't have a look in the
cargo hold." *flees*
This Boardie was somewhat normal (for
a given value of "normal") when he first arrived in the Boardieverse.
Slowly, though, his background came to light and he was exposed as the
swindling trader and occasional pirate that he truly was.
He was born on a planet named Pryea, in
the small town of Bridgetown, several days ride southwest of the
capital, Newcandabra - "ride" because, until about five years before
Thalass' birth, the only transportation was the local form of horse.
The
young boy was raised by his uncle Rohan, a trader who supplied the
local rebel effort on the sly. At the age of sixteen he joined the
fledgling Pryean Space Forces as a fighter pilot, and throughout the
first few years of his career he defended the new orbital stations and
their freighters from pirates who managed to set their own base up
somewhere nearby the planet. He earned a reputation with both pirates
and his peers as a crack shot and a reckless yet highly skilled fighter
jock.
After much effort and tax-dodging, he
gained himself a powerful interstellar trading trading vessel and set
off to make his fortune. Shortly therafter, his sources discovered
heavily classified information regarding a "jump drive" supposedly
capable of travelling between universes. Eventually Thalass managed to
buy his way into the jumpdrive project as a test pilot - on his third
jump attempt the device worked...sort of. Instead of orbiting Pryea he
found himself in a decaying orbit around a different blue/green planet
in his now-crippled vessel. Having no other choice he abandoned ship
and found himself nose to nose with a very large space station...
He now resides aboard the Funky Horror with his wife, Mellie,
and spends most of his time managing a small assortment of trading
stations and defence vessels. He frequently spends weeks at a time in
his home universe with no boardie contact at all, though most of his
time is spent in the Boardieverse. He is yet to openly return to his
home planet, both because he would be expected to tell his superiors everything
(and he now is in command of a much more powerful fleet than his home
planet could field when he departed) and because he still has five
years to go on his enlistment. He has, however, taken advantage of some
cloaking systems to check on his people and send a few messages.
He keeps the destination, and even
the precise location
(though he wouldn't be surprised if someone had detected it by now) of
the gate
rather secret, as one or two of FLEET's personnel would take particular
interest in the activities of his friends on the far side of the gate.
Many of them cannot set aside their inbuilt hatred of rogues and
pirates.
