Name: The Entity
Height: 6'3"/191cm
Age: Approx. six months
Known affiliations: S&M-A
Quote: "You may think being
electromagnetic is fun, but it's a pain in the neck when some idiot
waves a lightning rod at you. Also...magnets."
The Entity's story begins several
years ago, with an ill-conceived experiment by several of the Board's
many mages to create a more efficient fusion generator by using magic,
employing mystical energies to set up powerful containment fields and
manipulate the local laws of physics. It all went horribly wrong, as
such things are wont to do, and the resulting explosion of vast
quantities of magical and physical energy rent open holes in the fabric
of space-time that M-Division and Weird Science personnel spent months
repairing. But that wasn't the only unexpected side-effect: the chaotic
interplay of diverse energies somehow spawned a new life-form from the
bizarre cohesion of energy fields and gaseous plasma that had been at
the heart of the reactor.
The bloblike creature left the
wreckage of the lab shortly after the repair crews departed, and
meandered through the corridors of the Funky Horror until it came across a
computer terminal, which it rapidly deduced the basics of operation of
and began to browse. Board technicians found it still there a week
later, trying to map out the principles of human society and language
from studying Archives and spec threads.
After a brief debate it was offered
the chance to become a Boardie, which it did enthusiastically, choosing
for itself the name "The Entity" and adopting a humanoid form. Since
then it has mostly been engaged in studying Boardie culture and
interaction, as well as serving as a technician for several of the
Board's more insane research projects (mostly due to a considerable
proficiency with computers and technical systems, and the ever-handy
ability to solder components and wires together with bare fingers).
In personality, the Entity is
mild-mannered, reticent, somewhat sardonic, and at times difficult to
talk to due to its thoughts being occupied by some recent topic of
interest to it. Its exact nature is still somewhat unclear: Weird
Science has formally classified it as "a body of plasma enclosed by a
self-organising multispatial energy manifold with subspace-mediated
information organisatorial and processorial capacities", which most
people don't find terribly informative; M-Division took a brief look at
it, announced it was probably "some kind of plasma elemental thingy",
and excused themselves to deal with a containment failure in the
tentacle monster lab on deck 104.
